Not a Good Day

Yesterday was a difficult day for me. About 2 miles before I got to work, and at about 6:15am, I hit a deer – rather a deer hit me.

I didn’t even know anything was happening until the deer hit and shattered my windshield.

The car continued to operate, and I just drove on to work.

I couldn’t get out of the driver’s side - the car was well hit.

The guard at work called the police, and I called all the other folks, insurance and towing company. Don came over to rescue me, and the car was taken away. I won’t see it for anywhere from 2-4 weeks while it’s in for repairs.

I have been reasonably ok, but walked around with a red face and talking fast for several hours. I am fine, just a little shaken.

The poor deer and my poor car didn’t fare as well.

Wow. That was quite a hit. Glad you didn't get hurt. Several years ago just a few miles from south Bend, Indiana we saw a deer that went up through the windshield of a Caravan. The glass cut the faces of the people in the front seat. It was pretty traumatic. Even without personal injury, that can be a disturbing moment. Relax and try to move past this event. These things happen and you're not at fault in any way.

My brother had the same Deer Experience. The car cost a fortune to fix, but he wasn't hurt, thank goodness. Glad you're OK!

Mercy girl, do you know how lucky you are? Back a few years ago my aunt hit a deer and she ended up in the hospital. The deer didn't fair so well either. He ended up in somebody's freezer.
We have our share of 'deer' encounters here in Podunt. My brother-in-law had hit two when he decided he'd had enough. He bought one of those whistle things you put on your car hood. Something about it hurts the deer's ears and makes them avoid coming near your car. I don't know how it works but he hasn't had another 'encounter' since.
Glad your okay.

Oh my God! I'm always afraid of that. We have tons of deer around here. Good Lord.

Wow, you were lucky, and I can see why you were shaken up. I hope you're OK and the car and insurance all works out.

Awww, Cas, what a way to end your week. At least you are okay. The car can be fixed. Sorry about deer... but nothing you could do !!

Things will get better !! (hugs)

Thank goodness you're okay! I know it must be upsetting.

My husband hit one last month and pretty much totalled our Blazer....the only car we had. It still stinks from the mess, even after we washed it 6 times. I have resorted to spraying Febreeze on it.

what a nasty way to end your week (or the deer's week for that matter).

I'm glad you're okay though!

Posted by: Christopher at December 3, 2004 04:49 PM

Sorry to hear about this. It's something I worry about everyday to and from work. I've had them run in front of me before, but have never hit one. Thank God you weren't hurt.
