Now that winter's rapidly approaching us here in SE Pennsylvania, I have the annual problem of how to keep my hands warm.
Gloves are probably my least favorite article of clothing ever. I guess there are worse (corsets, girdles and the like), but I don't indulge in them.
I also don't think gloves keep hands warm. They just seem to isolate each little finger from any chance of gathering any warmth from any other little finger.
And I think mittens are only slightly better.
That's why they invented large pockets on coats. I have a pair of Gore-tex gloves for the deep freeze. They are so warm my hands sweat.
Posted by: ken at December 14, 2004 04:42 PMGloves or mittens? Mittens are by far better, but there is so much you can't do with them. I don't mind wearing gloves, there are some real cool ones out there. I like the fleece lined leather ones. Sadly here in Podunt, we rarely need gloves or mittens. In fact we seldom even need coats. A lightweight jacket will get you through most winters down here.
Posted by: wanda at December 11, 2004 04:36 PMWe Canadians could probably perform surgery while wearing gloves or possibly even mittens. Unfortunately they're an asbolute necessity up here during the winter.
Posted by: Leslie at December 11, 2004 03:37 PMI dislike coats and jackets as well as gloves. I will wear coats and jackets, but I just go for warm jacket pockets. Reckon it's a good thing we don't need them much down here.
Posted by: TW at December 11, 2004 01:20 PMYeah, both drive me nuts - unless I am going to be outside for a long period of time.
I am more of a glove person than a mitten person, I suppose. I like being able to use my fingers separately.
Posted by: Vickie at December 10, 2004 03:45 PMMittens are only SLIGHTLY better. The thing that's worse about them is that you can't grab onto them and you look like an idiot trying to.
Best answer I can come up with, make sure your nice warm jacket has nice warm pockets.
Posted by: Chris at December 10, 2004 02:07 PMBarbara's right - cashmere is the way to go. Cashmere lined Italian leather gloves...mmmm...
Though I have a secret longing for mittens on a string, since I lose everything. And I do mean everything!
Posted by: Suzy at December 10, 2004 12:13 PMI'm a mitten-kitten
Posted by: bryn at December 10, 2004 11:17 AMHere in sunny Southern California, we don't usually have much need for gloves. But lately it's been almost cold enough to need them. Don't know about gloves, but I love my hand knit socks. Don't like shoes though.
Posted by: Marsha at December 9, 2004 10:02 PMOnly one answer we are going to have to hold hands all winter! Hey where you going I saw somewhere today you are going away?
Posted by: Joe at December 9, 2004 09:02 PMThey're not my favorite clothing item either, but one word can make them feel a lot better . . . cashmere. :)
Posted by: Barbara at December 9, 2004 08:25 PMAll this is true, but you can't clap...
Posted by: mark at December 9, 2004 07:24 PMI like mittens !! I think that way all of the fingers are together and keep each other warm. At least that is what I tell myself.
I like socks... but I don't like shoes !!
Posted by: Dawn at December 9, 2004 06:17 PMI agree, I hate gloves, and socks and shoes too!
Does this make me a follower?
I feel that way about socks and shoes!!!
