We had dinner at our favorite Chinese Restaurant last night, and the owner came out after our meal and gave us each a dish of Green Tea Ice Cream.
I’d never had it before, and after the first taste (it is a little different), I really liked it. Don thought it was pretty good.
So I went on the internet to see where I could buy some, and got no hits. Maybe I’m not that great a searcher. I got lots of recipes to make it, but no store-bought stuff.

Posted by: poker at February 22, 2005 06:11 AMThere is a whole foods store near us that sells ginger green tea ice cream. The brand name is Reed's. Maybe next time you come over, we could take a trip to the store?
Posted by: Empress at February 21, 2005 10:51 AMI have never heard of it till just now, but like the sound of it. I may have to give it a whirl in my icecream maker this summer!
Posted by: Desiree at February 20, 2005 01:32 AMGreen tea ice cream. That's a new one for me. I've never heard of it. Sounds delicious though.
Posted by: wanda at February 19, 2005 04:26 PMI've never had it, but it sounds good. I like green tea, and drink it often, so I'm imagining the flavor. I hope you find it.
Posted by: Barbara at February 19, 2005 02:48 PMI live in San Francisco, which has a thriving Asian community, so I have easy access to interesting flavors of ice cream. Green tea, lychee, red bean, peanut, and mango are a few I have grown to like. The local company which makes and supplies Asian ice cream flavors to most of the grocery stores and restaurants in the area is Polly Ann's. Their website is www.pollyann.com. (They also make a killer American Beauty Rose ice cream!)
Posted by: Mike Zillion at February 19, 2005 01:34 PMI like green tea ice cream, too :) If you lived in Japan, You could get one easily...
Have a nice weekend!
At first I went ugh thinking about it. But actually, it doesn't sound too bad at all! Good luck in your search.

Posted by: Lisa at February 18, 2005 11:02 AMSounds great! I've never had anyone at a restaurant come out and really make it right.
Posted by: Mark at February 18, 2005 02:44 AMi looked into getting green tea ice cream, and i think you have to make it. i was unable to find a place that sells it too.
Posted by: Alicia at February 18, 2005 02:09 AMSounds interesting. I'll have to search the city to see if any is available around here.
Posted by: ken at February 17, 2005 10:56 PMI had never heard of it and came in specifically to see what more I could learn about it. You have me really curious now! I can't imagine how it must taste. I have tried making ice cream in the past and it burned my tongue, so I will be buying it in the future if I can find it. Have no idea where I went wrong, but it really did burn my tongue. Cooking goddess... 'fraid not
;)
Hi,
I, too, love green tea ice cream. If you're in the Houston area, you can find it at the Chinese grocery store in the Bissonet area. Email me and I can give look for a better address, but it's in a shopping mall where there's a variety of Chinese outlets.
BTW, thanks for stopping by the other day. I hope you enjoyed Narrative Magazine.
Posted by: vikk at February 17, 2005 04:32 PMWhen they said for all the tea in China I don't think they ment ice cream! I love there food too!
Posted by: Joe at February 17, 2005 03:02 PMA most excellent ice cream that may or may not have any actual dairy content. It does taste like green tea, but it's smooth and delicious. I suspect it does have some sugar in it, so if it has the caffeine content of green tea, this is an excellent concoction. Great with sushi. Not so easy to find in the USA except at Japanese restaurants, but in the Tokyo Airport at Narita, you can get it from Haagen Dazs vending machines.

Nope, until you mentioned it I'd never even heard of it. But then I don't get out much, my keepers only let me out to go to work and shop. LOL But it does sound good. I'll see what I can find.
Have a good day.
How about Ben and Jerry? or Haagan Daz?
