That's My Boy - Again

Baby Buzz

This little picture sits on my pc desk.

It’s only a 2x2 picture, but I just love it.

Thanks for all the great times, Buzz, and I’m looking forward to lots more.

THE RAT PACK

We went to see a performance last weekend, A Tribute to the Rat Pack

It is an act from Las Vagas consisting of a group of 3 men who imitate Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis, Jr. They were accompanied by a great band.

Here's a few audio samples if you'd care to listen.

I’m not overly fond of any of those singers, but the performance was good.

And we were with good friends. And that's always a plus.

That's my Boy

Lunchroom
Ladies

My oldest son sat down to dinner one evening long ago and gave me the supreme 7-year old compliment: You’re really a good cook. You’re almost as good as the lunchroom ladies.

I smiled and thanked him for the wonderful compliment.

CD Time

Don's Quest to Play the Oldies

Almost every evening when I get home, Don has a cd playing that I haven’t heard in a long time.

We have a large collection of cds and our taste is very eclectic – from country and gospel to classical, and a bit of almost everything in between.

Don has decided that we should listen to all of our music, and he’s on a quest to play all our old “stuff”, you know, the ones you still like but never listen to. It has proven to be a great experience.

"Tis the Season

Baseball Games

Both of my sons played baseball for one season, each on a different team.

Each boy's team played 20 games, and each team won two of their games.

Think about it folks, I went to 36 losing baseball games in one season. I’m so lucky that neither of them liked the game enough to want to play another season. They found another sport that they liked that didn't have so many games per season.

Weekly Soup

As I was gathering veggies this morning to make a pot of turkey soup, I was reminded of a friend from years ago, Diane.

Diane was a Navy wife, and times were a little tough, especially when you had 4 growing, hungry children.

Each night, after dinner, Diane would take the left-overs from dinner and put them in the freezer. On Friday, she would gather all the left over veggies, meat, etc. from her freezer and make soup. I think that was a pretty clever idea.

Seems like with 6 at the dinner table, there would never be enough leftovers for a meal, and this way, there was no waste, and Friday’s dinner was pretty much free. Kudos to Diane.

POPUPS

I just got a popup on my computer screen which offered to help me eliminate popups!

Then I went into my emailbox (the one connected with my blogsite), and had about 60 stupid messages from about 15 different email addresses.

Do these people really think you’re going to read that stuff?

Have any of you ever responded to any advertisements of either of those types? I just find them really annoying. Who knows, maybe I'm missing something.

Interesting Blog Walk

Who is that with Jeremy?

I was taking a little after-work blog walk and ended up at Anjipatchwork You just never know what you’ll stumble across. Jeremy is a little boy who has had his picture taken with lots of famous people. And he’s still just a toddler. If you want to see some cute pics, go over and have a look.
Thanks Anji.

Easter Dinner Surprise

We were supposed to have Easter Dinner along with 14 other people at Don’s daughter’s house. Unfortunately, she wasn’t feeling well, and wasn’t getting better as the day went on.

We found out late morning Easter Sunday that the dinner would be at our house. Fortunately, most of the food was brought here, along with the guests – all family and really nice folks, I might add.

So, we got out the extra table, found 2 tablecloths that didn't clash, and proceeded. I thought it turned out quite nice. Other Dave, Kathy's husband, was the host. And he did a great job. I was like a guest in my own home.

I had a great time. And I hope the rest of the family did, too. We even managed to get a mini-birthday celebration in for one of the kids.

We sure hope you're feeling better Kathy

Parent Story

I was visiting Rude Cactus a while back, and read this funny mouse story. It reminded me of the mouse story that my mother told me.

My father came home from work every evening with a pocket of pistashio nuts in his suit jacket. One evening, he draped his jacket over a kitchen chair and went to bed.

When he got up in the morning, there was a hole in the jacket, and just below the pocket there were a lot of pistashio shells strewn around.

A Mouse!! So my parents (not sure which one did the deed) diligently set a mouse trap that night and caught a furry little critter.

As it turns out, they repeated the “set a mouse trap” scenerio 17 times and caught 17 mice. They lived in a very nice neighborhood that was not, they thought, vermin infested.

I’m just so glad I wasn’t living at home at that time. The whole scene would have upset me a lot (they're so cute!!). But thanks, Chris, for reminding me of this story.

Anyone else have any unusual parent stories to share? If you post, I will read. And laugh or cry, whichever seems most appropriate. Buzz, don’t pay any attention to this request.

Blogging Milestone

I received my 1000th comment this week and almost forgot to mention it.

Thanks, Mark for comment #1000. And thanks to all of you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me.

I've learned a lot, and laughed a lot, and cried a bit as well.

Blogging isn't "all about the comments", but the comments sure do make the whole thing more fun.

Dont'cha think??

Dinner Out

We had dinner with two of our favorite people at a funny little restaurant last night.

You have to walk past the bar and go upstairs to the dining room. The waitresses are very friendly and the food is really good.

There was live entertainment, which I understand they have every Friday night, and it was Frank Sinatra!! Or maybe it was just someone who sang and acted like Frank. So we were entertained by lots of old FS music.

BABY BOY

We went to visit yet another new baby.

That makes 3 in one month. This little boy is the grandchild of our favorite neighbors.

He only weighs slightly over 5 pounds, and is not quite 2 weeks old. I held him, and he seemed so light. He tried to wake up a couple of times, but it was just too much work. I sure do love babies.
