Well, our 3-day weekend is over. I hope you had a good one. We did.
And now it’s back to work Tuesday. But don’t forget – Friday seems to happen one day earlier this week.
I’ll be telecommuting today, so that’s an extra day I don’t have to make the trip to work.
The temperature is supposed to hit 90 degrees today just like it did yesterday here in Bucks County PA, so I guess we’ll try firing up the air conditioner.
It must be humid because my fingers are sticking to the keyboard.
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves.
It was first widely observed on May 30,1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers.
To celebrate, we had breakfast on the deck for the first time this season, and
this afternoon, we're going to a family Memorial Day picnic.
I hope you have a great day!
I can hardly believe it’s been three years since my first post.
The recipe listed in the extended entry is the recipe I posted then.
It's one of our favorites,
and possibly the best macaroni and cheese in the world.

My Mother's Macaroni and Cheese
Nanny Mac or My Mother's Macaroni and Cheese
2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked
1 10 ounce package cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 cup flour
8 tablespoons butter
3 cups milk
---------------------------------
Butter a 2 quart casserole with about 2 tablespoons of butter
make a cheese sauce with 6 Tablespoons of the butter, flour, 3 cups milk and the grated cheese.
Mix with hot cooked pasta, and let sit till cold. (very important)
Top with additional grated cheddar cheese.
Put in well (use the remaining butter) buttered casserole dish and bake at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes or until quite brown and bubbly.
Thanks, Mom.
I was standing waiting for a cup of coffee at work this afternoon (to help me get through the rest of the day), and a man who was standing there also waiting for his coffee said to me, "Why do they have to make Mondays so long?"
He thought that they could spread all those extra Monday hours
throughout the rest of the week.
It sounds like a good idea to me.
I'm a bit tired after this long day.
If you have a little spare time this weekend, maybe you'd like to try this- ![]()

Don and I have a favorite commercial that always makes us laugh. I found out just yesterday that Karolyn, one of the stars of these commercials has her own blog site, "Blogging with Karolyn".
I was just wondering if any of you
have a favorite commercial.
I love French Onion soup. But sometimes just don’t want to take the time to make it. So I tried this recipe, and it’s really very good. And very easy.

2 tablespoons salad oil - or olive oil
4 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons butter
3 ¼ cups chicken stock – I used a little more
½ teaspoon salt (optional)
1 cup dry powdered milk & 2 cups of water (or 2 cups milk, half and half, or a combination)
4 Vidalia medium-sized onions
salt and pepper to taste
Saute onions lightly in butter and oil. After they are sautéed, stir in flour. Stir in all remaining ingredients and cook – stirring often on low heat until thickened.
When I came home from work last night, there was a big box on our porch. I looked, and it was for me!
Inside this box was a beautiful gardenia plant, and a card that said, "Happy Mother's Day"
Thanks guys. I love it.
Happy Mother's Day!

I hope you have a wonderful day.
AndI hope it doesn't rain where you are.
It's supposed to rain here, but I really don't mind.
It just doesn't take long for those babies to make their entrance into the world.
Thanks for the update, M!
What I learned from the Sunday Paper this week.
I remember as a kid running out to the Ice Cream Truck coming down the street on a hot summer day. My Mother was always a soft touch for my brother and me and would give us enough money for a wonderful treat.

In 1920, Harry Burt found a neater way to sell his mouth-watering but messy chocolate-coated ice cream: on a stick.
Soon he took them directly to the streets, dispatching a dozen frosty trucks driven by men in white suits.
The bells announcing these at-your-door treats quickened young pulses across the country, guaranteeing sweet memories for generations.
We always had to run. What if he left before you got there?

Just curious.
Happy Cinco de Mayo Day.

Sorry folks, if you were looking for unusual holidays in May, I apologize for being so late getting the calendar published.
There are a lot of really interesting days that I would like to celebrate. I can usually choose one or two events, but this month I don't think I can limit it to so few.
Happy May.
I just love spring.
My friend M from work just sent me a picture of the dove nesting in his hanging basketful of pansies. There are the requisite 2 eggs and two parents.
This is the 3rd family of doves they’ve hosted two families last year and so far, one this year.
We have a lot of doves in our yard,
but have never been fortunate enough to see their nests.
