We've been Pumpkinned!

pumpkin - a.gifLast weekend, Don and I were sitting in our family room, and someone drove by our house and threw 3 pumpkins at our porch. I can’t even imagine why they would do that.

I wonder if we made someone angry, or if we were just lucky.

After Thanksgiving Turkey...

I'm getting a generous helping of icon_spam.gif.

The problem with these email messages is that I really don't understand most of them.

For example, I got one with the heading, " 私、性欲がかなり強いんです。"

Now I’m getting Sp@m that I don’t understand. If this is offensive, I apologize.

These messages are written in a language that I don't understand.

Have a nice day.

Thanksgiving Preparations

thanksgiving day.jpg
Happy Thanksgiving everyone

There are a lot of people who have taken off this week from work. It’s time to be getting ready for the family visiting, and the preparation of Thanksgiving dinners.

We’ll be having our Thanksgiving dinner with the Empress and Buzz, and lots of other family members.

We’ll be taking a couple of appetizers, and this is one of our favorites. It’s easy, and delicious.

Those Little Seafood Crab Appetizers That Don Makes
½ pound crab meat

½ pound imitation crab meat salad

Grated cheese – about 8ounces - (Don uses sharp cheddar)

Mix together the crab meat and the crab meat salad. (The crab meat salad has enough seasonings and small cut up veggies to flavor the whole pound. Sometimes he adds a little extra mayonnaise).

At serving time: Line a microwaveable dish with taco chips.

Put a little crab meat on each taco chip, and a little grated cheddar cheese on top of that.

Put the plate into the microwave and microwave for about a minute, or long enough to melt the cheese.

And get ready to make another plateful, because they go fast.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

This pleases me

After a firestorm of public outrage, a spokesman said last night that his television network was dropping its deal to broadcast this very controversial interview
describing how he would have murdered his former wife and her friend.

New car for a day

The rear brakes on my car had to be replaced today, and a door gasket as well. The dealership gave us a loaner – a grey Toyota Corolla.

corolla_main.jpg

The car was brand new - it had 6 miles on the speedometer when we got it this morning. And I didn’t mind driving it. Last time they gave us a Camry as a loaner, and I actually liked the way the Corolla handled better.

But I’ll stick with the car I’ve got, thank you.

And after that trip, I'm just so glad we have a warranty on the car.
The whole repair trip and loaner car cost us nothing.

The Sunday Paper

Except for the fact that Don doesn’t know how to keep the Sunday papers all in one place, I really enjoy reading the odd news facts.

Just this week I learned this fact about turkeys -

Turkey -.jpg

WATER DANGER
Domestic turkeys can easily drown when it rains
because they tend to look up to see what's hitting them
and their tiny, oval-shaped nostrils are perfect "funnels" for falling rain.

And it hardly even hurt.

Are you getting one?

November 11th - Veteran's Day here in the U.S.

Who is a Veteran?

Veterans are people who served in the military (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard) in times of war or peace.

Do you know anyone who is a veteran?

Maybe it is your mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, grandfather, grandmother, cousin, neighbor, or teacher.

We can be very proud of them. Many have given much to keep us safe and free. usa_flag.gif

Applesauce

I have canned about 30 jars of applesauce this week. It's quite a bit of work, and I’m really tired of doing it, but the applesauce is so very good.

I don't do a lot of canning, but I have a few things I manage to can each year – Applesauce, Vidalia onion relish, and blueberry jam.

I don’t know if the results are worth all the work, but I keep on doing it.

applesauce.jpg

It’s hard to find the time for these things when you have a full-time job.

My recipe is simple: cook the cored and sliced apples till they are soft, run them through a food mill or seive to get rid of the skins (or cook them peeled, but then you lose that pretty rosy color), then freeze or can them. I don't add anything, but I do like to use at least 2 kinds of apples, at least one of them a tart cooking apple.

Why is U.S. Election Day always on a Tuesday?

And why in November? You might want to check out these interesting facts about U.S. elections.

-- Election Day in the U-S always falls on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

-- The Tuesday after the first Monday in November was initially established in 1845 for the appointment of presidential electors in every fourth year.

Happy November!

November Calendar –

I'm late with my calendar page again! The months seem to go by so fast that I find it hard to believe.

Aside from the holidays that everyone knows, I have this little calendar page of unusual days for celebration. Maybe you can find one that especially fits your life.

To view the calendar, click on the turkey. turkey - 1.jpg

I should definitely celebrate November 6th. I feel that I am directionally challenged, and never seem to have a compass.

Happy November!

I neglected to add my little brother's birthday on November 26.

But we won't forget to celebrate!

Mirror Mirror

Happy - The Elephant in the Mirror

Yesterday Don read in our local paper about Happy, the Indian Elephant, who has recently joined a very small group of animals who can see themselves in a mirror.

Only humans, apes and, more recently, dolphins, have been shown to recognize that the image in the mirror is of themselves.
