BLUE MOON

I was reading Becky Strain’s post this morning over at Down a Country Road and she wrote about a Blue Moon

It was interesting to hear about, and like her, even though I’d heard the phrase, I’m not sure I ever knew what the term meant.

I found it interesting, and looked around till I found a site that has an audio description of a Blue Moon.

Thanks so much, Becky for your “Once in a Blue Moon” post.
I really enjoyed it.

A Thousand Marbles

I was reading a book the other day, and came across the story of a thousand marbles:.”4 marbles.jpg

An older sounding chap, with a golden voice was telling whoever he was talking
with something about “a thousand marbles”:

The average person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years. Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900 which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime.

If this intrigues you, the whole story is here

I JUST LOVE BIRTHDAYS

Last night I went to dinner with the Empress and Buzz.

It was these two who introduced me to blogland, and I’m very happy that they did.

We all have birthdays just a few days apart, and it was our birthday dinner.

Don didn’t get to come along this year because he was in Hawaii! Wouldn’ you think he could have cut his trip short to get to this all important dinner.

The dinner was good, and the company even better.  Thanks and happy birthday to all of us.

Walking my way to Good Health

The Company that supplies me with my pay check has also supplied me (and any other employee who wants one) with a pedometer.

They have asked that we keep track of our steps for 6 weeks, which I have done.

It was interesting to me.  I have always considered myself as moderately active because I sit behind a computer all day at work, but after 6 weeks, I find that I am, and always have been, in the very active category.

It’s nice to know I’m doing something right

pedometer.jpg Here's the "steps" chart:
2500 steps - very inactive
3700 steps - inactive
5000 steps - moderately active
7500 steps - active
10000 steps - very active

And I have walked over 1000 steps per day for 6 weeks (except 1 day, when I was at an all-day meeting.  I only made it to 9000) My biggest day was over 13000 steps.  YES!

If she could only hear herself

LUNCH ROOM LADIES

I met one of the lunchroom ladies in the hall at work this morning.

She told me (joking, I think) that she wanted to go home – ‘cause all the people in the kitchen were fighting and she couldn’t stand the noise.

I walked away, and as she went onto the loading dock, she said in a voice that could be heard from a

Convenience Store Birthday

WAWA.jpg

A dairy store named for the Lenape Indian word for Canada goose has grown in four decades into a chain of 541 Wawa Inc. convenience stores in five states.  And Sunday was their birthday!

I think if you’re not from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Virginia you just might think WAWA is a funny name for a store.

Rainy Sunday Afternoon

It was raining pretty hard here this afternoon, and Don and I sat and ate popcorn and watched the old Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly movie (1954), Rear Window.

What a treat.  That movie is ageless.  It has been colorized (and very well), and the plot really held our interest, even though both of us had seen it before.

Follow Up From Yesterday’s Post

This little bird left the nest about 2 hours after these pictures were taken.  The world outside his birdhouse just looked too inviting.

Baby Bird

We have a gourd bird house which is no longer pretty in the big maple tree that shades our deck.  It’s very close to where we sit.

Each year we get 2-3 families of sparrows in that nesting place.  We have some wonderful pictures, and have actually seen 3 babies fly from the nest.
