update - very unhappy ending
Update - It was announced later that night that they euthanized the deer. I’m sorry. I wouldn’t have posted this in such a light manner if I had known.
A local restauranthad an unexpected guest for dinner today. You might like to see the slide show.
All’s well that ends well
The young buck was eventually tranquilized. It only suffered some scratches and was taken back to Cobbs Creek Park.
Officials say the deer will be released back into the wild.

I’D LOVE TO SEE THIS!
If I lived just a little closer to Chicago,
I’d be sure to have this on my “must see” list.
The Crown Fountain features two 50-foot high glass block towers at each end of a shallow reflecting pool. The towers are activated with changing video images and lights, and water cascades from the top of each.

And And I thought my cat was big!
I don’t know who this lady is, but perhaps we should take up a collection to help her purchase cat food and kitty litter.
(This was sent to me by a fellow cat lover in an email message.
Sorry if you’ve already seen it, but I felt I had to share)

Recently Overheard at a seminar
(and if you don’t believe it,
just listen to what’s being said around you)
Is there something we can do to improve the number of Positive conversations?

I haven’t tried this one yet
I just finished a book, ”I Dreamed I Married Perry Mason”, and in was mention of Erle Stanley Gardner’s (creator of Perry Mason) favorite candy, Podunk. I just had to see if there was a recipe on the internet, and low and behold, here it is.
by Erle Stanley Gardner
4 ozs. Chocolate
1-2/3 bottles Dark Karo Syrup
1 lb. Dark Brown Sugar
2-1/2 Tbs. Butter (reserve 1 Tbs.)
Lots of Vanilla extract
Cook in a fair size pan over good heat until it bubbles like a volcano. Add 1 Tbs. butter at the end to soften.
Pour on greased (?) cookie sheet or candy plate. Cool and crack with a hammer.
- From Valerie J. Naso, Gardner’s granddaughter
We tried this. Not bad. Actually quite tasty. You may have to experiment with the timing on this, though.

School memories
I’ve been reading a lot of blogger’s first day of school experiences in the past couple of weeks. Here’s my most vivid memory of my oldest son’s school days.
He started school (a while back), and almost never shared his school experiences with me. He would never let me help with his homework, and rarely told me about anything that was happening at school. I guess he just figured that was his life – and I was only an occasional invited guest.

We survived (nicely, I might add). He got great grades, I only felt slightly guilty about not helping with his homework, and I still think he’s one of the greatest people in my life.
Oh, once he asked me for help – on the way out the door(going to school, about 8:30am) – “Oh yeah, do we have any poster board?”

Break out that old crockpot
With kids going back to school and autumn weather (for some of us) approaches, I like to dust off the old crockpot for some quick and easy meals. This is one of our favorites:
Crockpot Marmalade Chicken
4 to 6 chicken pieces
3/4 cup orange marmalade
1/4 cup water
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt and pepper, to taste
Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 7 hours. Serve over hot rice.
