Another Snow

This one promises to be a lot of snow - at least that’s what the weathermen are predicting at the moment.  I hope it’s slowed down enough for the roads to be clear for tomorrow’s trek to work.

Sorry to grumble, but I hate driving in the snow.
It is pretty, though.

What Exactly is a Blogger?

Meaning of the word -
Blogger

According to WORLD WIDE WORDS,
A blogger is a person who keeps a Web log, or blog for short.

The idea started sometime in 1998, but really caught on in 2000,
to the extent that there are now thousands of bloggers and blogs about.

blogger.jpg
I’ve been blogging since May 2003.
How about You?

At the beginning, the concept was that a person kept a diary of their explorations of the World Wide Web, making it public for others to inspect and follow up.

But as blogging has expanded, that simple idea has been so much modified that it is now difficult to get two bloggers to agree on what the term means.

Many blogs are online diaries chronicling activities and events as they happen to the writer, often with no reference to the Web at all.

Some writers create only brief entries, while others provide extended essays on life, the universe and everything.

There are several sites where people can create accounts and publish their blogs, most notably www.blogger.com, where blogs often have names like The Magnificent Melting Object, or Exploits of a Dwarf Lover.

Somebody wasn’t paying attention!

We had snow last night.  I woke up to a beautiful scene.  Wish I had taken a picture so I could share it, but alas, I didn’t think of that till it was too late.

The funny thing is - it snowed, and I have today off.
How often does that happen?

Lazy Sunday

Apology to KSW.  This recipe was a variation of her Mom’s original recipe..  I didn’t know that, but would like to apologize to her for stealing this absolutely delicious recipe.  - They were really soooo good.

Today is a quiet day here at our home, and Don decided to make his world famous Stuffed Peppers.  And he doubled the “stuffed part” of the recipe so the peppers would be very stuffed.

Our house smells so good, I can hardly wait till dinner.

Don’s Stuffed Peppers

3 large bell peppers, green or red
1 egg
1 pound ground beef
4 slices bread
1 cup corn
1 can tomato soup

Mix the ground beef with the corn, onions, add 1/2 of the soup.
Cut the peppers in half, scoop out the seeds, and stuff with the meat mixture.

Pour the other half tomato soup on top of the stuffed peppers.
Precook in microwave 10 minutes
375 degrees - for 1/2 hour

Thanks Don

Green tea ice cream

We had dinner at our favorite Chinese Restaurant last night, and the owner came out after our meal and gave us each a dish of Green Tea Ice Cream.

I’d never had it before, and after the first taste (it is a little different), I really liked it.  Don thought it was pretty good.

So I went on the internet to see where I could buy some, and got no hits.  Maybe I’m not that great a searcher.  I got lots of recipes to make it, but no store-bought stuff.

Anyone know of a brand?
I’m not really in the mood to get the ice cream maker out

Almost 3000 comments

Don’t all run, but the next person to comment on my sight will be the 3,000th commenter.

Wow, that seems like a lot to me.  Maybe not to you, but it definitely seems like a lot to me.

Maybe I should have a glass of wine to celebrate.
Update - thanks, Barbara, for the 3,000th comment

Are you ready for Valentine’s day?

happy valentine copy.jpg
Happy valentines.jpg

Cupid was the god of love in Roman mythology. The name Cupid is a variation on Cupido ("desire"), and this god was also known by the name Amor ("love").

It was commonly believed that Cupid was the son of Venus - the Roman goddess of love - and this association between Venus and Cupid was quite popular in myth, poetry, literature, and art.

The ancient Romans often depicted Cupid as winged child or baby who carried a bow and quiver full of arrows. Indeed, the Roman poet Ovid seems to delight in portraying Cupid as a willful and capricious child in many of his poems from the Amores and the Art of Love.

It is also from these collections of poetry that we get a wonderfully vivid description of the god of love.

And while the idea that Cupid was a child with wings appealed to many poets and artists, there were also different conceptions of this important god. One of the most memorable myths about Cupid involves his relationship with the beautiful woman named Psyche. The tale of Cupid and Psyche is told in the Metamorphoses of Apuleius.

Meet the Bloggers

I actually met two bloggers last weekend - the two great folks from Budda’s Den and Valley Views.

12Valley and Buddha again.jpg

I’ve been blogging for nearly 2 years and this is the first time I’ve met any bloggers that I’m not related to.

I was also lucky enough to see a few of the bloggers that I already knew, the folks from:

The Introverted Extrovert
Pegasus
The Honesty Room
and
Buzzstuff

“How cool is that?”
correction - this is the REAL picture.  My apologies to all concerned.
Am I embarrased.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

Don just called me to the kitchen window to see our newest dinner guest.  He had thrown some suet out in the yard, and this very large turkey buzzard stopped in for a snack. He even stayed long enough for Don to get a picture.

Never saw one of those in our yard before.
