Happy Halloween

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween.  bat animated.gif

scarecrow.jpg

A little history of the Scarecrow, often associated with Halloween:

A scarecrow is a device (traditionally a mannequin) that is used to discourage birds like crows from disturbing crops.

Not only do crows feed on recently cast seed, they also gather nightly, starting with groups of a half dozen which then unite to form a group of 20 to 30 and so on until the flock is quite large and noisy. It is their habit to return to the same place each night. Thus, it is in the interest of farmers, gardeners, and homeowners to move them along (to make them someone else’s problem).

Day in Lancaster

amish buggy.gif

We had our annual autumn trip to Lancaster, PA last weekend.  It was a wonderful day – The weather was rainy – very rainy, and the leaves were autumny, but we aren’t having the brilliant colors this year as most other years.

We didn’t see too many Amish buggies because the weather was so bad, but had a great time nevertheless.

We had lunch with 2 bloggers (also family members), The Pegasus and The Honesty Room – and of course their two kitties, Minet and Luna.

We had such a great time visiting with them in their new home.
And the lunch was great!  Thanks

He’s in the wrong profession!

Brenda at What’s Up Down South posted a complaint regarding news Broadcasts.

Our local paper had a small article regarding a “not so serious situation”

Pay Stub Robber.jpg
A note handed to a bank teller demanding $20, $50 and $100 bills “the quicker the better” was written on a pay stub that led police to a robbery suspect even though the name and address were crossed out with a marker.

“It wasn’t a huge forensic undertaking”, the director of public safety, said Wednesday. “We just put it under a light.”

Taking the afternoon off

I’ll be telecommuting this morning, and then off to the newly opened Ming’s Restaurant.

Ming has opened a second restaurant not too far from here, and we’re going to give it a try and wish him the best of luck.

I hope I will be able to update this post later today with a picture of the new restaurant.

Update - We had a wonderful afternoon - went to the Michener Museum, and Don dragged me to a ski shop where I bought a really great jacket.

Lunch was absolutely wonderful.  Ming gave us all kinds of special attention, and we wished him well for his new venture.

Alas - no picture of the new restaurant.  It was raining very hard.  We’ll just have to go back on a nicer day.

All in all it was a nice half vacation day.

When Pigs Fly!

When pigs fly is an informal way to joke that you will never do something.

Example: “Do you think you will ever work at that company again?”
Reply: “When pigs fly!”

when pigs fly.jpg

Pigs are heavy animals that stay close to the ground and do not fly, so when pigs fly is a time that will never come.

Another example: “Do you think your brother will be successful?”
Reply: “When pigs fly he will.”

When pigs fly is a time that will never come because pigs will never fly.

Yet another example: “Will you ever take her on a date?”
Reply: “Sure: When pigs fly!”

Beautiful Day

What a beautiful, sunshiny day!

It’s such a treat after nearly a week of rain.
Don’s off playing outdoor tennis, I’m making applesauce and Smokey Joe is just enjoying the sunshine!

When I grow up…

It’s been raining for days here in Bucks County Pennsylvania.  rain.jpg

And I’ve made a decision… When I grow up I’m going to remember to take an umbrella when it rains.

So far, I’ve been a failure at remembering this handy fact.

Update - 11:00 am It’s raining again.
Another update - 3:00pm It’s still raining.

Appetizer for company this weekend

We’re having company for dinner this weekend, and I’ve decided to make this dip - it’s one of our favorites.

HOT BROCCOLI CHEESE DIP
1 pkg. Cream Cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 envelope G*ood S*easons Italian Salad Dressing Mix
1 pkg frozen chopped broccoli, drained (10 oz.)
1 package shredded Cheddar cheese (I use extra sharp)

Mix cream cheese, sour cream and salad dressing mix with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Stir in broccoli and 1½ cups of the Cheddar cheese.

Spoon into lightly buttered pie plate or ovenproof crock.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
Sprinkle with remaining Cheddar cheese. Bake for about 5 minutes more or until Cheddar cheese is melted. Server with crackers.

And you don’t have to worry about left overs!

If I’m wrong, please let me know.

I don’t know how to fix this situation.  tears.jpg
It seems as if I can only comment anonymously on many blogs these days.  To be able to blog as myself, it seems like I must open a blogger account, which I don’t really want to do.

Posting anonymously is not a problem to me – except that many of the posts that I have commented on in the past do no allow anonymous comments.

So if I used to stop in to say hello, and no longer do, please accept my apologies.
