April Celebrations

The weather here in Bucks County, PA is spring-like today.  How fitting for the beginning of April.

If you have too few holidays to celebrate in April, please consider an additional holiday or two from this calendar (posted in the extended entry).

April 1.jpg

I was thinking about celebrating No housework day on the 7th
(and maybe extending it to a 3 day holiday)
and Moment of Laughter on the 29th.
Maybe I’ll extend that for 3 days too.

I’m so lucky to be left-handed

Did you know -

The average person’s left hand does 56% of the typing.

And I’ll bet 99% of the writing.

Spring is coming - Yard Flamingos

pink flamingo.jpgA bolt of pink inspiration struck John Featherstone one bleak day. The result was the creation of the world’s first plastic pink flamingo lawn ornaments.

Don Featherstone in one stroke of genius accomplished more than any other single person for both the plastics industry and popular culture. Imagine the drabness of a world without plastic pink flamingo lawn ornaments.

People have found many unique and interesting ways
to display their lawn flamingos year round

The original Don Featherstone pink flamingo lawn ornaments are still in production today.

For the creation of the plastic pink flamingo, Don Featherstone has won the coveted Ig Nobel Prize.

Getting ready for weekend company

We don’t often have dessert around here, but for a company dinner, I like to have something delicious for dessert.

I find that chocolate is almost always a favorite.  I’ll be making these cookies to go with a dish of ice cream for this weekend.

They are so good, and so easy.

CHOCOLATE BROWNIE MIX COOKIES

1 pkg. (large size, about 20 ounces) brownie mix
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons water
2 eggs
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 cup chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips or M&M’S®

Combine all ingredients, mixing by hand.
Drop by teaspoonfuls on lightly greased cookie sheet - about 12 to a cookie sheet.

Bake until just set at 375 degrees about 9-10 minutes.

I think I’ll make some chocolate chip cookies too.

Can you use this word?

Please use this word in a sentence -

Arcane

This morning I thought of the word “arcane” I really didn’t know what the word means, and seemed to be unable to use it in a sentence.  So I looked it up in a dictionary, and a thesaurus, and still cannot use the word in a sentence.

Can anyone help me?  It’s a great sounding word, and I’d like to add it to the list of words that I actually use.

I did find a website which describes the arcane terms of the Haggis Hunt,
But I don’t think it’s going to help me a lot.

Another day to celebrate

First Day of Spring

The Vernal Equinox is one of the four great seasonal changes every year. Day and night are equal, and the changing weather can lift the spirits of young—and old—alike!

Have a great day.  It’s a little cold here, but maybe now that it’s spring,
It will be warm and sunny tomorrow! spring - oops wrong spring.gif

Family Brunch

We had our annual Family brunch last Sunday at the General Lafayette Inn.  This year there were 21 people in attendance – a record breaking number.

We had a room upstairs in the restaurant, which gave the younger children a little playing room.

Don and I had a good time, and I hope everyone else did as well.

I wonder where we’ll go for brunch next year.

Another cold day

It’s really a cold, windy day here today.  We even had about a half hour of snow this morning. So I decided to prepare a wintery soup to help take the chill off the day.

This is a really easy recipe - and delicious!

*Mexican Bean Soup
soup.jpg
2 cans black beans
2 cups water
1 jar (16 ounces) salsa
1 can ready-to-use chicken broth
1 can whole kernel corn, drained
1 small onion, chopped
1 Hot sausage, chopped small and fried ( optional)
1 teaspoon cumin

Combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan; bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes.

There seems to be a problem

Am I a bit Dyslexic ?

When I try to post comments on some blogsites, I run into strings of letters to type to allow me to leave a message.  I don’t know if I’m dyslexic, or if others have problems with these letters.

It’s gotten so annoying, that when I am confronted with this difficult situation, I make sure to copy my comment so I don’t lose it when I type the characters in wrong.
