February
If the cold weather is getting you down, maybe this calendar will help you to find a day or two to celebrate and pick up your spirits.
*February 2 - Wear red to show support for womens heart disease awareness. The Heart Truth campaign, introduced the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in February 2003.”
Thanks so much Paul N for the February 2 “Wear Red Day” update.

Are you ready for some football?
I was looking through my recipes, and came across a great appetizer (that I snagged off the internet last year) for the SuperBowl next week.
1 pound package Velveeta
1 can Chili - no beans
1 pound medium or spicy sausage, browned and crumbled
You can heat this on the stove until the cheese melts and it all mixes together
I usually put it in the crock-pot on low until blended and then keep it there to serve.
I have to double the recipe because it would all be gone in a half hour.
It really is so easy.
Anybody out there care to share who they will be cheering for?

Another recipe
I started looking for an interesting new recipe to help me keep my Every other New Year’s resolution and came up with this one.
This is a recipe that I found in an old cookbook I often put carrot-raisin salad on my plate from a salad bar, but haven’t made it myself.
This looked interesting. And turned out to be very good. Don can’t leave it alone.

4 cups peeled shredded carrots (about a pound)
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup seedless raisins
2 teaspoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon cinnamon – dash of nutmeg
3 tablespoons orange juice
1/3 cup mayonnaise (I used a bit more)
Mix all ingredients – chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
It is delicious. And we still have a bit left.

Rough day at work.
If you survive a particularly harrowing day at work, don’t you think it would be a good thing to stop and pick up a bottle of one of your favorite wines?
It was very therapeutic!

Don’t believe everything you read!
When I opened my mail this afternoon, one envelope claimed (in very large letters) “Open Immediately and claim your free gift!”
I was a bit dubious, but opened it . Inside, they announced that you could collect your free gift just by joining their cause with a donation of $20.00.
What’s free about that?

Winter
Winter has hit Bucks County Pennsylvania!
I looked outside the cafeteria windows at work yesterday afternoon, and it was snowing great big snow flakes. It was so pretty.
It snowed for a couple of hours, and then it snowed a bit again last night. There is snow on the lawns and trees, and even a bit of snow on the streets.
And is it cold!

What a show!
A while ago we were traveling in Canada, and had arrived fairly late in the evening. It was still a long ride down a dark road to the hotel, and I was busy gazing out the car window.
For a long time, I didn’t understand what I was looking at, and after about 10 minutes, I mentioned it to Don, who was busy driving.
What I was seeing was a magnificent display of northern lights.
I hadn’t ever seen them before.
But I hope we go back to Canada and are lucky enough to see them again.

New Year’s resolution continued..
The first recipe I have made to fulfill my New Year’s resolution of making a new recipe each week for this year. And it was a great success!
You can use either old fashioned oatmeal or the 1-minute quick cooking variety.
If you have a bread maker, now might be a good time to break it out and give this delicious bread a try.

EVERY OTHER YEAR RESOLUTION
I make a new year’s resolution every other year (odd numbered years)- And that is to try at least one new recipe a week.
It’s something I like to do, and my personal cookbook has grown a lot in the past few years.
The opposite (even numbered) year that I don’t make a resolution,
I get to retry some of those recipes,
and make my own personal adjustments.
