Did you ever have a Slinky?
“Richard James invented the Slinky by accident. He was trying to develop a spring that could help keep sensitive ship-board instruments steady at sea. He knocked some of these experimental springs off a shelf, and was amused by the way they “walked” down, rather than just falling.”
A Slinky is a coil-shaped toy, invented by naval engineer Richard James and his wife, Betty James. Slinkys come in various sizes, but are usually no larger than a grown adult’s fist when compressed. The Slinky is famous for its ability to “walk” down stairs as the coils stretch and reform as gravity moves them down each step.

MEMORIAL DAY - DECORATION DAY
![]()
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May (observed this year on 2007-05-28). It was formerly known as Decoration Day.
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation’s Civil War dead by decorating their graves.
It was first widely observed on May 30,1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers.

Happy 4th Blogaversary to Me
I can hardly believe it’s been four years since my first post.
I posted This recipe on my very first post. And was I nervous.
It’s one of our favorites,
and possibly the best macaroni and cheese in the world.
Nanny Mac (or My Mother’s Macaroni and Cheese)
2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked
1 10 ounce package cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 cup flour
8 tablespoons butter
3 cups milk
---------------------------------
Butter a 2 quart casserole with about 2 tablespoons of butter
make a cheese sauce with 6 Tablespoons of the butter, flour, 3 cups milk and the grated cheese.
Mix with hot cooked pasta, and let sit till cold. (very important)
Top with a lot of additional grated cheddar cheese.
Bake at about 375 degrees for about 35 minutes or until very brown and bubbly on top.

Short break
I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed at my work and home responsibilities this week - So I think a short blog break is about due.
Hopefully I’ll be back by the end of the week to wish Don a happy birthday, and to wish myself a happy blogaversary.
Hope the weather’s fine where you are.

Found riches
We walk on a school property on our evening walk, and Don has occassionally found dimes and quarters by the bus lanes. If he keeps on finding all this money, we’re going to spend it on a latte!
Have a great weekend!

Emoticons
Emoticons are ASCII glyphs originally designed to show an emotional state in plain text messages. Over time they have turned into an art form as well.
Emoticon etiquette.”
Don’t overdo the use of emoticons. More than one in a paragraph and three in a message are a good indicator you are a “newbie.”
Please note: The nature of the internet has always been an “anything goes” type of culture.
In most cases, emoticons are constructed to be viewed by tilting your head left so the right side of the emoticon is at the bottom of the “picture.

Near as any research can pinpoint, the emoticon was invented by Scott E. Fahlman on 19 September 1982 in a message posted on Carnegie Mellon University bulletin board systems.
Fahlman is quoted as saying “I propose that the following character sequence for joke markers:

Jury Duty
I had my day at court last Wednesday. No one in our whole group of over 100 people was even called. They finally sent us home at 2:45. It was a long kind of boring (but a bit stressful) day..
But lunch was fabulous
