July - this year seems to be speeding by

Happy July.

We’re hoping for some pleasant weather this first week of July.  Especially on the 4th for the fantastic picnic we’ll be attending.

Since the year is half over, I think a little extra celebrating is in order.

Of course, there’s always the 4th of July, but here’s a calendar to help you find another day or two to celebrate.

And don’t forget to check out July 26!

My storm rant

Don and I came home last night at about 10:30 down on a non-lighted, winding road in a thunderstorm.  It was raining so hard that seeing the road was a real challenge.

Don was going about 35 miles per hour (speed limit on that road was 45).  A car came up and passed us on the right, and then immediately slowed down to the same speed we were going.  A minute later, another car passed us, and proceeded to weave to the other side of the road, and pass the first car.

Don’t people know that when you can’t see the road through the rain, that this is poor behavior?

And more than a little dangerous!  image

Happy Summer!

image

Today is the longest day of the year.

This doesn’t mean our day has more than 24 hours in it - it just means that we just have more sunlight than any other day.

On the summer solstice we get between 15 and 20 hours of sunlight, depending on where you’re located in the world.

This occasion is also called Midsummer because it is almost in the middle of the growing season throughout most of Europe.

Dinner Guests

We feed the birds year round, and really enjoy seeing the different varieties who come to dine.

We’ve had two new guests relaxing for most of the day beneath our bird feeeder for the past 2 weeks - a pair of Mallard ducks.

We’re a long way from any source of water,
that is unless you want to count swimming pools!

Update on Smokey Joe’s health issues

We brought Smokey Joe home from the vet hospital this morning after a serious surgery.  He’ll have to wear a cone and be confined for his 14 day recovery.

I’m posting a picture of him when he doesn’t look like a sick little kitty, and a picture of the cone he has to wear.

image

He looks terrible, all shaved places and very matted hair, but we don’t care.
We just want him to get better.

Smokey Joe

Smokey Joe is staying overnight with his (not so great) friend, the vet.  He has a bladder problem.  They’re going to treat him today, and keep an eye on him overnight and in the morning.

Hopefully, he’ll be sprung tomorrow morning.
I hope he’s ok.

Fly in the Fan

As I was lying in bed this morning, I watched a flying bug go into a fan blade, and drop down onto my bed –

I assume it was a suicide mission.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend.  It’s hot here, but there’s a breeze.
We’re getting ready for out of town company tomorrow.

And our menu is all planned - should be delicious, but easy - my favorite kind of company meal. smile

2007 Hurricane Names
Tropical storms and hurricanes have been given names since 1953. Names alternate between male and female and always run in alphabetical order. Names of hurricanes that do a great amount of damage are retired and never used again.

Barry has already stopped by to see us.  We had a lot of rain, but no big storm.  Lucky us.
