Broken computer
I haven’t posted this week, because my computer seems to be failing me. I’m either going to buy a new computer, or get a new hard drive (I think that’s the problem according to the technical advise I’ve gotten).
So hopefully, this will be a very short break.
Wish me luck.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Where’s the Party
I looked out the window at our back yard this morning, and this is what I saw.
I guess there was a party nearby.
Maybe our invitation got lost in the mail.

calendar anyone?
There are several charities that we donate to on a regular basis. Evidently they sell their mailing lists, because we really get lots and lots of requests for our money from some very worthwhile causes.
These requesters send little gifts to make you feel really good about them – and hope that then you’ll send them some money.
So far – since June, we’ve received 8 full-sized calendars, and a couple of small size booklet calendars. And untold numbers of address labels.

We can’t use all those calendars, and I’d like to offer them to anyone who would like a “free” calendar.
If you’d like one of our free calendars, please just send me an email (there’s a little “email me” to click on the side)with your name and address, and I’ll ship one off.
If we run out, I’ll keep your address till the next one arrives – and I’m sure there will be more in our mailbox soon.
Have a great weekend. We’re in for some hot weather here.

The first hint of cool weather - let’s have soup
We’ve had a cool, rainy bit of weather, and I remembered how much I always enjoy a bowl of hearty homemade soup.
This is one that’s pretty easy. And very delicious. The leftovers, if you have any, freeze well.
BEAN AND SAUSAGE SOUP
1 bag (1 lb.) dried beans - whatever kind you like best. The original recipe called for Mixed Dried Beans
1 1/2 pounds Italian sausage
1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes - I used tomatoes from the garden.
2 (14 ounce) cans chicken broth
1 cup barley
1 cup white wine (or water)
1 red bell pepper, 1 onion, 2 stalks celery, 2 large carrots, chopped
2 cups frozen green peas
Soak beans overnight Drain and rinse beans.
Place beans in crockpot with tomatoes, broth, white wine, and vegetables.
In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until done. Slice links into 1/2 inch pieces. Add meat to crockpot
Cover, and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours. And I can’t wait!

Are Moms Always Right?
When I was a little girl, my mother used to tell me lots of things. And I think a lot of what she told me was good, valuable information.
Today I question some of the things she told me.
She said, “If you put your socks back on after they’ve been worn (before they’re washed), you’ll get athlete’s foot.”
Now that I’m all grown up, I wonder if that’s true.
My mother was always right. Just ask her.

Kitchen Window
This is my favorite view from our kitchen window.
We have a lot of tomatoes in our garden this year. And to celebrate, Don and I had his favorite sandwich for dinner last night - BLT on homemade bread.
Delicious!

Another Bat!
We found yet another dead bat on our driveway this morning. (if you check my previous post, you can read about the last one Don found earlier this week)
I hope this isn’t getting to be a habit. I’m not a big fan of bats, but I’d really rather see them flying than dead on our driveway
.
I really hate finding things like that.
What a way to start a weekend!

EEEEEK
Don found a dead bat on our driveway this morning.
We heard a terrible cat commotion last night. I guess the cat won.
I wonder who the owner is of the proud kitty.
Not me. Smokey Joe doesn’t venture outdoors. I hope the bat didn’t have any diseases.
I’m glad I didn’t go out to get the newspaper this morning.
I hate finding things like that.

Patience
I received this wonderful picture in my email box yesterday, and just needed to share it with someone.
JOHN QUINCY ADAMS said, “Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”
