Are you ready for the New Year?
Don and I are hosting a New Year’s Eve dinner tomorrow night - for 6.
We’re planning to serve beef and a couple of things we’ve never made before. If it comes out great, I’ll let you know. Actually, if it doesn’t come out great, I’ll let you know.
It’s always nice to try new things.
I would like to wish you a Happy New Year - all 365 days of it.

How about a Bowl of Soup
We’ve been eating wonderful, rich holiday meals for about 2 weeks now. And I think I’d like a slightly less grand meal for tonight. Soup is one of my favorite meals, and this is what we’re going to be having tonight.
Crockpot Bean, Barley & Sausage Soup
1 pound Kidney beans (or your favorite beans), dried
1 pound Smoked sausage, sliced
7 cups Water or stock
1 cup Barley
2 Garlic cloves, peeled & chopped
3 Bay leaves
Rinse beans, cover with cold water and soak overnight. Drain off water the next day. Put beans, barley and remaining ingredients into crockpot. Stir. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours. Remove bay leaves. Salt to taste when serving.
And I think I’ll get out the breadmaker and make a loaf of whole grain bread.

Remember these guys?
I try to find a home for at least one of these little creatures every Christmas.
Isn't he cute?
Have a Merry Christmas! And a wonderful holiday season.

Labels, anyone?
Address labels – I can’t believe it.
We have received in the last month, more than 45 sets of address labels. That seems to be the bonus for donating. I’m not sure we can survive long enough to use all these labels.
We have also received about 25 calendars this autumn. I’ve tried to give them away several times, but it seems that everyone else is getting the same deluge of calendars.
It almost wants me to stop donating. I said almost.

Reindeer Mix
Make a special “Reindeer Mix” (there are several different recipes, but this is my favorite) with one cup of oats, one cup of barley, and two spoonfuls of gold glitter.
It’s a secret recipe that comes straight from the North Pole, and is just what the reindeer need to fuel them for their evening of delivering gifts.
On Christmas Eve, instruct your children to leave the mix on the driveway, front lawn, or any other spot where the reindeer might want to rest and enjoy a snack.
After the kids have gone to bed, clear most of the mix away, leaving just a few oats as evidence that the reindeer have made their visit.

Hawk
A large hawk landed just a few feet from my car this morning, and landed on his lunch.
Unfortunatley there were lots of cars behind me, so I couldn’t stop to see just what he found. I’m guessing it was a mouse.

HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR BLOG NAME?
About my blog name, Cassie-B. When I was a little girl, my neighbor, Jimmy from across the street couldn’t pronounce my name.
He always called me Cassie-B.
Through the years, I’ve always wanted to use that name for something, and when Buzz was setting up my blog and asked me what name I wanted to use, it was instantly there.
Thanks, Jimmy
And thanks Buzz for setting up my blogsite four and a half years ago.
Oh- and as some of you may know,
my first name is not Cassie.

What’s with the snow?
We had more snow in our yard than our next door neighbors had in their yard! Huh?
I wonder if this is all the snow we’re going to get today.
I’m not complaing.
