Ski Day
Don and I went to Bear Creek on a ski trip last Friday. We had a great time.
We stopped at one of our favorite restaurants on the way home. Don says they have the best onion rings ever, and I have to agree, so no matter what we order, there’s always a side of onion rings to go with the meal
All in all, it was a fantastic day!
I hope your weekend was great!

Any Chocolate lovers out there?
This is a recipe that I made often when my children were young. I just found it on the internet quite by accident, and think I’ll make it again – although I’ll wait till I can take it somewhere as my contribution to a dinner or party. It would be too dangerous to have much of that at home.
TEXAS SHEET CAKE
2 sticks butter
1 c. water
4 tbsp. cocoa
2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. sour cream
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
In a saucepan bring to boil first 3 ingredients and remove from heat. Then add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into a large, greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 22 minutes. Frost with Texas Sheet Cake Frosting while still warm.
FROSTING:
1 stick butter
6 tbsp. milk
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 lb. confectioners sugar
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
Bring to a boil first 3 ingredients; remove from heat and add last 3 ingredients. Spread on cake while still warm.
It’s very good.
And sometimes it’s nice to make a recipe from the past.

Did you ever wonder what SKU means?
Sku – A three letter acronym that may stand for Stock Keeping Unit(s)
Definition: Stock Keeping Unit. A common term for a unique numeric identifier, used most commonly in online business to refer to a specific product in inventory or in a catalog.
And it is not the same as a product model number from a manufacturer, although the model number could form all or part of the SKU. The SKU is established by the merchant.
I knew what a sku was,
but didn’t know much more than that.

I like to follow the rules
How fast do you travel?
When I’m driving, I often travel at 5mph over the speed limit. That is not because I want to exceed the limit. It’s to keep from being run over.
I’m such a rule follower that I’d like to go the speed limit,
but people don’t like that!

Cowboys today
We’ll be watching the Dallas Cowboys/ New York Giants game this afternoon. I’m sitting here with a cup of coffee waiting for game time.
The popcorn popper is on the stove, so I’m nearly ready.
Now, where did I leave my Cowboy’s Sweatshirt?
Go Team Go!

Popcorn
Most people think a popcorn kernel looks drier than the desert, but actually contains a tiny bit of water and starch beneath the hardshell.
When heated, the water turns to steam and expands.
The expanding steam causes the shell to burst open and turn inside out, and transforms the kernel’s starch into that fluffy white stuff.
Is popcorn good for anytime, or is it just for movies?
How about football games? I’m starting to think about the Superbowl.
About 10 years ago, I bought one of these popcorn poppers for Don as a gift.
He is the official popcorn maker in this house, and using this pot is the official manner in which it is popped.
I like parmesan cheese sprinkled on my bowl of popcorn. Don likes salt.

My hands are so cold
This is my annual quest for comfort in the winter months. So far, I haven’t been very successful.
All this cold weather makes me think about how uncomfortable I am when not properly bundled up. My hands are always cold.
I have a hard time deciding on gloves or mittens for my cold weather outings. I find that wearing gloves (can be very stylish) makes all my fingers cold, while wearing mittens (not so stylish) help by keeping my fingers slightly warmer.
I’ve tried many kinds of gloves, looking for just the right pair to keep me warm, but so far, no luck.
Any suggestions?

Hey Mister - Got a Dime?
Last week as we were coming out of a store, a man stopped Don and asked him for $3.00 to buy gas for his car. He said he was from New Jersey. He said he had no money and couldn’t get home without putting gas in his car.
I don’t know why he didn’t have any money – he was sitting in a fairly nice jeep about 5 years old.
And Don gave him the $3.00.
Does that make that guy a panhandler?
