I knew it was hot
According to our weatherman, if the temperature is over 90 degrees for 3 or more days in a row, that’s a heat wave.
I hope it doesn’t stretch to 4 days.
Have a nice day, and I hope it’s not too hot where you are.

Remember this guy? He’s back
Does anyone remember Mr. Bill?
He was a popular character in our house.
And now he’s back doing a commercial.

Philadelphia-ism (is that a word?)
I hadn’t had anyone call me that for a long time, but yesterday we had breakfast at a diner, and the waitress called me “hon”.
It brought back pleasant memories of my childhood.

EMBARRASED AS A KID
Now isn’t that pretty silly?
Their names were Mildred and Fred. Not the greatest, but not that bad.
Did anything silly embarrass you when you were a kid?

Buttons - Right and Left
From time to time I wonder, “Why are buttons on men’s shirts on the left-hand side, while they are on the right-hand side on women’s clothes?”
One theory is that men used to dress themselves, while women had the help of a maid. Since most people are right-handed, the buttoning was inverted for the sake of the maid.
Another theory says that women were forced to button themselves using the inferior hand, in order to show them that they themselves were inferior (to men, of course). This theory is based on the assumption that women buttoned their own dress, thus inherently contradicting the first theory.
Both of these theories assume that the preference for one hand plays a role. Being left-handed, I occassionally complain about anything that makes life unnecessarily difficult for lefties, but I have never felt that buttoning, whichever way around, was a problem. You normally use both hands.
Have a nice day!

Walk a Mile in Their Shoes
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, you’ll be a mile from them, and you’ll have their shoes.

Annual Summer Picnic
We had 35 people here yesterday for our annual picnic. It was the hottest day of the year here in SE Pennsylvania.
People spread out in the house and on the deck.
Don had bought a canopy for the deck to keep the sun off the folks outdoors.
It helped, and the fan he set out helped a bit more. But it was still hot.
We put a sprinkler on for the young children and they enjoyed getting wet.
There was a lot of food, and a lot of food was consumed.
We had bbq chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, steak chili, and all the standard accompaniments, and of course, some wonderful desserts.
If anyone when home hungry, it wasn’t for lack of food.
A few pictures were taken, and this was one of them. I love it.
We had a good time, and I hope everyone else did as well.

Ready for a snack?
“Rompibollo” is a chocolate board which can be easly divided in pieces of different dimensions.
On the relief of each piece, it’s shown the calorie count of chocolate.
Now you can eat chocolate knowing exactly how much calories it has, if you’re into that sort of thing.
The cool thing about this idea is that with the different dimensions, you can choose how many or how few calories you take in.
Anyone care for a snack?

Hurricane Season
It’s Hurricane season again.
For every year, there is a pre-approved list of names for tropical storms and hurricanes. These lists have been generated by the National Hurricane Center since 1953.
At first, the lists consisted of only female names; however, since 1979, the lists alternate between male and female.
Hurricanes are named alphabetically from the list in chronological order.
The lists contain names that begin from A to W, but exclude names that begin with a “Q” or “U.”
There are six lists that continue to rotate.
The lists only change when there is a hurricane that is so devastating, the name is retired and another name replaces it.
I hope we don’t use up too many of those names this hurricane season!
