Mini Vacation Day

Don took the day off last Friday, and we headed for one of my favorite places, Longwood Gardens.

We were there all morning, and then went to Simon Pearce for lunch and some decadent shopping.
Then back to Longwood Gardens for a concert – Jesse Cook.  It was wonderful.

All in all, we had a really great day.

I love rainbows

I took this rainbow picture from our front door a couple of weeks ago,
and have just now downloaded it to my computer.
image

It was just so beautiful.

What is a rainbow?
A rainbow has been described as “one of the most spectacular light shows observed on earth”.
The traditional rainbow is sunlight spread out into its spectrum of colors and diverted to the eye of the observer by water droplets.
The “bow” part of the word describes the fact that the rainbow is a group of nearly circular arcs of color all having a common center.

What a nice place for a luncheon

Karen Ann’s Tea Room

image

What a great place for a relaxing lunch and good conversation.

I can’t wait to go again.  Which should be next week with two good friends and three young girls, ages 4-8.

Here’s a typical tea selection.
image

Two scones with clotted cream and preserves
Five assorted Tea Sandwiches
Four assorted desserts
Pot of Tea
(and if you don’t care for the tea you ordered from their 3-page tea menu, just send it back and order something else)

Well, I did it

I finally signed on for an account with faceb00k this weekend. We have some family members who are there, and no longer blog.  And I’d like to be able to see what they have to say.  image

And I found a few old friends who don’t seem to hang around their blog sites any more.

I have an account at this time, and nothing posted yet.  I did think I’d put some pictures up, starting with Smokey Joe.  He’s such a willing subject.

But I think blogging is still my choice.  In fact, I know it.

A little anger management please

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP)—A 56-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of shooting his lawn mower because it wouldn’t start. image

He told police he felt he had a right to shoot his mower.  image

According to the criminal complaint, he says he was angry because his mower wouldn’t start.
He told police: “I can do that, it’s my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want.”

A woman who lives at at his house reported the incident. She says he was intoxicated.

I guess if you’re drinking, that should be a good excuse for some people.

Dinner tonight

We’re having a salad of fresh veggies from our garden, steamed red potatoes,
and kielbasa cooked in beer then grilled and basted with honey.

And the star of this dinner is homemade mustard – made by the Empress

image

I can’t wait.

***UPDATE***
Fantastic - both the dinner and the mustard.
And the weather was with us - we had dinner on the deck

Kitchen window view

Our little kitchen garden is doing very well this year.  We have lots of tomatoes and peppers.
I planted onions, swiss chard, kale, and a few other delicious veggies.
And I really enjoy seeing the kitchen window with lots of tomatoes just waiting for our salad bowl.

image

I love tomatoes, and it seems like the ones from our garden are the best.

Number Seventy-Two

I read about this little turtle caper at Rude Cactus’ blog site.

A radio equipped turtle (number 72) about the size of a raisin wandered within a small marijuana field in Rock Creek Park that appeared to be actively tended, Police said.

image

She is an Eastern box turtle, one of 135 counted by researchers in the park in recent years, and one of three puttering in the woods with tiny radio transmitters affixed to their shells so scientists can study their movements.

Turtle No. 72, six inches long, roams an area of about 50 acres near the District-Maryland border, meandering no faster than a few hundred feet per hour on her three-inch legs.
