He saved his own life

A while ago, Don’s friend at work was telling him the story about his dog, a Jack Russell terrier, who was being walked in the park.

A large hawk came down and grabbed him as prey.

Fortunately, the dog was wearing a little jacket (it was cold) and the hawk dropped him because he didn’t have a good hold - the little dog was wriggling to get loose.
The hawk came back around and went after the little dog again, and the dog attacked and killed the hawk.

I’d say that was one lucky little dog.
By the way, Jack Russell terriers are now known as Parson Russell Terriers.

Brunch - my favorite meal

Don and I went for brunch last Sunday at the Valley Green Inn – this is the second time we’ve been there, but not the last.
Both times we were lucky enough to be able to eat outdoors on their porch, and the brunch was absolutely delicious.
I had brie stuffed French toast (and they were kind enough to post the recipe on their website It was so good.
Sorry to say there was so much I couldn’t finish it, but it was delicious.
Don had a lobster, shrimp, scallop hash with 2 poached eggs on top.  It was also delicious.

The Valley Green Inn restaurant is located the Wissahickon Valley of Fairmount Park in the City of Philadelphia.
The inviting atmosphere of Philadelphia’s last remaining roadhouse, is complimented by the romantic setting of the Wissahickon creek, and the valley in which it’s cradled.
Literally, one of the best kept secrets, waiting to be found in the bustling metropolis of America’s birthplace, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After brunch, we walked a couple of miles on one of their walking paths.  It was so beautiful.  Lots of people go there to train, compete, tone up, or just walk.

Scarecrows

Don and I went to Peddelr’s Village in Lahaska PA to see the annual Scarecrow competition.
There were dozens of unusual scarecrows scattered throughout the shopping village.
We had to stop and take a few pictures.

While we were out, we went to a wine tasting.  I didn’t discover any new “favorites”, but I liked trying a few new local wines.image

Very Easy Appetizer

I made one of the easiest ever dips yesterday.

image

Cream Cheese and Salsa Dip

1 cup any-style salsa (I used homemade)

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

Mix together, refrigerate a couple of hours,
and serve with tortilla chips, corn chips or crackers or veggies.

It’s so nice to be able to make something so delicious, and have it taste soooo good.
How quick and easy can you get? image

The Dentist

imageI went to the dentist yesterday to have my teeth cleaned and a check-up.  After a half hour in the dentist chair, I was told that everything looked good, and given a new toothbrush.  This cost $78.00.

I hope to never have any work done
Cleaning costs enough.

September

I can’t believe it’s already September!  It’s still hot here, but it is September.

This is the time of year that I begin to think about Christmas gifts for our large family.
I guess I’ll make my list soon.
I have already made a couple of gifts, and will be making more shortly.

Have a great weekend!

Churchville Nature Center

Don took Friday afternoon off and we went to the Churchville Nature Center, not far from our home.
It’s not the prettiest time of year there, but it was a pleasant place for a walk.

I’m anxious to go back when the leaves turn in the autumn – which isn’t very far away.
It would be a great place to take a child or two
