Surprise at the Dentist Office

Yesterday I went to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned.  While I was sitting in the dentist chair, I spent considerable time looking at the ceiling (where else can you look).  There is a big light fixture on the ceiling over the chair, and I could see some dead bugs, and one very active bug crawling around in this light fixture.

When my tooth cleaning was finished, and I was waiting for the dentist, something fell on me – right on the blue bib they wrap around your neck.  The hygienist brushed the “something” away.  I asked her what it was, and she said, “a bug”.  It was the bug that I had been watching in the light fixture.  YUK.

I’m so glad it landed on that little blue bib.  It could have been so much worse!

By the way, my teeth are clean and I have no cavities!!

Traumatic event – happy ending.

Our little cat, Gracie, who we adopted as a battered kitten about a year and a half ago (she lived under our sofa for 3 months), had a terrible adventure outside tonight.  It’s kind of misty, and when I went out on the deck to feed the neighborhood stray, I neglected to close the door all the way when I came back into the house.

Gracie went outside.  I found her quickly and she galloped for the door.  Unfortunately, the screen door was closed and she couldn’t get in.

A little later, she started running from me for the front door, and it was closed. Then she knew there was no way back in.

Don finally found her about an hour later under a bush at the next door neighbors, but couldn’t get her to come in.  I gave it a try and got her.

She was so scared.  Full of leaves and twigs, and wet.  Poor little kitty.

I got her into the house, and she’s busy recovering now.

Creature of Habit

I always park my car in the same spot at work.  Have done so for years.  People know where I am, and when I got a new car recently, several people noticed that I had a new car because it was in my parking spot.

This morning when I got to work, there were only 2 cars in the whole parking lot – one of them in my spot!!!  I was at a loss.  Where to park??.  I started to park on one side of this big ole SUV, and decided no, if they weren’t careful, they would hurt my car when the driver door was opened.

I backed out and parked on the other side of this monster SUV.  I was so unnerved that I couldn’t remember if I had locked the car when I got into the building, and had to turn around, go back, and check.  Of course I had.

Talk about being set in my ways.  I’ve been laughing about it all day.

Good for most every occassion

Did I ever post this unbelievably good appetizer Recipe?  Practically everyone loves it!!!

Italian Sausage Applesauce Appetizer
1 pound Italian sausage
1/4 cup and 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chunky applesauce
1/2 onion, chopped

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
In a large skillet, fry sausage until it is browned.
Drain well. Cut the sausage into bite-size pieces.
In a small casserole dish, combine sausage, brown sugar, applesauce, and onion.
Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 45 minutes.
Serve with toothpicks for easy nibbling.

I double the recipe and never have any left!!

NEW COMPUTER DESK

My new computer desk finally arrived on Friday.  We ordered it a couple of months ago, and I’ve been waiting kind of patiently.

I love it.  After Don finished putting all my pc stuff into the desk – no wires show!

I have a flat panel monitor, so the desk top is actually empty looking, even with my new scanner on the desktop.  There’s a little front door (looks like a desk drawer) that opens, and the mouse and keyboard are in there.  And if you pull it all the way open, there’s space for pencils and such behind the keyboard.

Lucky me. It just doesn’t take a lot to make me happy. I’m just so excited about my new desk.

I tried to take a picture of it tonight, but it’s so dark, I didn’t have very good luck (I’ll try again on a brighter day).

On the other hand, early darkness does not make me happy.  And wait till I start talking about the cold!!!

Do Bloggers Sleep?

I got up early this morning and made a pot of coffee.  While I was waiting, I turned on my pc and decided to look at my blog stuff.

I was so surprised to see how many new posts there were from some of my favorite blog folk.

I just wonder if I do this long enough, will I lose my need for sleep.

Random Act of Kindness

I work for a large company and our building is on a beautiful large campus complete with deer, foxes, large snapping turtles, and last year, even an eagle.

Yesterday I was driving off the campus right in front of my boss.  There was a rain-soaked young red fox eating pretzels from a bag that someone must have dropped.  It was right in the middle of the road.  Poor little thing must have been very hungry.  It seemed to have very little road sense, as it waited till a car was practically upon it to abandon the pretzels, and then went right back to it.

As I drove onto the road, I saw my boss back up her enormous Cadillac Escalade and turn around.  She told me this morning and told me that she had gone back, gotten out of her car, and threw the pretzels, bag and all over to the side of the road.  Little fox just sat there and watched her.

My guess is that she saved the life of that little critter.

Applesauce

I’ve been really busy this week.  I’ve been canning applesauce after work.  It’s kind of hard to be corporate and farmer’s wife at the same time.

The applesauce is just so good that I can’t resist canning in the autumn when the apples are so fresh.

Wish I could share some with you.

Five People you meet in Heaven

Iwas listening to the radio on Sunday morning and the host was interviewing Mitch Albom, author of Tuesday at Morrie’s (which I have meant to read and never gotten to it).

He has a new book, Five People you meet in Heaven, which I think has already made the top seller’s list.  I was intrigued and logged onto Amazon. I read the first page from the excerpt and am now even more intrigued.  Think I’ll read it.

Has anyone read it - if so, how about a comment?

SATURDAY EXCURSION

Hawk Mountain.jpg
We went to Hawk Mtn. yesterday as planned.  It was really great – a little cool, but we were dressed for the day.

We were lucky enough to get there just as a guided tour of the mountain began.  It was so nice.  Not only did we see everything, but got a running commentary about most everything – trees, moss, birds, deer, the works.  When we got to the North lookout, we saw about a dozen birds, harriers, cooper’s hawk, red tail hawks, turkey buzzards, and a few I can’t remember.

If you live nearby, I recommend the trip. And if available to you, take a couple of kids along.  They’ll love it.  And if you go, be prepared to walk some rough (rocky) trails.

On the way home, Don saw a large flock of hawks flying, and followed them down a country road.  We saw several dozen birds circling round and round.  It was awesome.

All in all it was a really nice day, like a mini vacation, which seems to be necessary when you work full time.
