Applesauce

I’ve been really busy this week.  I’ve been canning applesauce after work.  It’s kind of hard to be corporate and farmer’s wife at the same time.

The applesauce is just so good that I can’t resist canning in the autumn when the apples are so fresh.

Wish I could share some with you.

Five People you meet in Heaven

Iwas listening to the radio on Sunday morning and the host was interviewing Mitch Albom, author of Tuesday at Morrie’s (which I have meant to read and never gotten to it).

He has a new book, Five People you meet in Heaven, which I think has already made the top seller’s list.  I was intrigued and logged onto Amazon. I read the first page from the excerpt and am now even more intrigued.  Think I’ll read it.

Has anyone read it - if so, how about a comment?

SATURDAY EXCURSION

Hawk Mountain.jpg
We went to Hawk Mtn. yesterday as planned.  It was really great – a little cool, but we were dressed for the day.

We were lucky enough to get there just as a guided tour of the mountain began.  It was so nice.  Not only did we see everything, but got a running commentary about most everything – trees, moss, birds, deer, the works.  When we got to the North lookout, we saw about a dozen birds, harriers, cooper’s hawk, red tail hawks, turkey buzzards, and a few I can’t remember.

If you live nearby, I recommend the trip. And if available to you, take a couple of kids along.  They’ll love it.  And if you go, be prepared to walk some rough (rocky) trails.

On the way home, Don saw a large flock of hawks flying, and followed them down a country road.  We saw several dozen birds circling round and round.  It was awesome.

All in all it was a really nice day, like a mini vacation, which seems to be necessary when you work full time.

Titles

Does anyone else have as much trouble as I do deciding on the title of a post?

Somehow, it seems very important – to me if not to anyone else.

Well, I guess if that’s my toughest problem of the day, I must be doing OK.

Have a great weekend.

Guarantees

We just bought a dust mop that is guaranteed for 10 years!

Of course, to collect on that guarantee, I suppose the store where the mop was purchased will still have to be in business, and we’ll have to be able to locate the information in our vast file of other such guarantees.

Oh, and the company that supplied the dustmop to the store will still have to be in business as well.

The mop cost $9.95.  So wadda you think - is it worth saving the paperwork??

The Hawks are Migrating

Don called me into the back yard yesterday afternoon to see the hawks.  There were about a dozen circling above our neighborhood.  What a beautiful sight!

I decided that we should go on our first annual trip to hawk mountain to see for ourselves. (we went there once before, but not during the migration season).

A quote from their website - “Hawk Mountain Sanctuary offers visitors an outstanding experience in nature observation with its mountaintop vistas and thrilling migration of nearly 20,000 hawks, eagles and falcons”

So I think next Saturday morning, I’ll dust off my comfortable hiking shoes, pack a lunch, and go.

Note Exactly the Right Quote

I was watching a show about Cindy Crawford’s life on tv, and she said something that I loved:“I ‘ve always said you can get a lot further with a smile”.  What a great attitude I thought.

So, I looked up the phrase on the internet, and I think it came from this quote, “You can go a lot further with a smile and a gun. Al Capone: ...”

Still a great way to live – Cindy’s quote, not Al’s

Blog it Forward

What a fantastic idea.  The only thing is, I couldn’t stop.  I’d go to visit a suggested blog, and looked at their suggestions – and so on.  Thanks, Buzz.  You really come up with some good ones.

Oh, and this is my 101st blog message.  Who knew?

Blog it Forward Day

I have really enjoyed the “World of Blog”.  Of course, my favorites are Empress and Buzz.  If I don’t say that, I may be drummed out of the family (just kidding, I really enjoy checking up on my family members every day.  I feel like I know them even better now.)

Buzz suggested that I have a look at Fishtales, and he is terrific.  Every day something interesting.

I have to tell you, there are several more bloggers I’d like to mention, but our company has just arrived.  To be continued at a later date.
