Radish, anyone?

Here it is - a kind of grey Sunday morning, and Don is off playing tennis.  So, true to form, I found myself in the kitchen.

I think this recipe is really good, and I don’t usually like radishes.  After the salad marinates a while, the radishes become kind of white, and the liquid becomes kind of pink.  Very pretty.

2 cups (8 oz) sliced radishes (about one of those small bags)
1 small onion, cut into thin wedges and separated
1/2 cup white vinegar (I use apple cider vinegar)
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
cut radishes with slicing blade or food processor. Combine with onion. In separate bowl mix vinegar, sugar and salt until sugar is dissolved. Pour over radish mixture. cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours before serving.

Beer - the new health food

And I Quote:

According to the Great Lakes Brewing News, beer is good for your health.

Researchers in the Netherlands report that middle-aged men who drink three or four glasses of beer with dinner each day have lowered the risk of inflammation of arteries, which can lead to heart disease.

Meanwhile, German scientists claim that beer containing higher levels of xanthohumol, a potent antioxidant, can help fight against cancer.

Anyone want to claim to be a middle-aged man?  beer.jpg

Tex and John

I ran across this picture of Tex Ritter (John’s dad), and thought father and son look a lot alike.  Tex was my favorite cowboy.  And John has been very funny and entertaining for a long time.

I understand there’s another of the Ritter men who would like to be an actor.
Comments anyone?

The Eagles Again

I moved away from the Philadelphia area at 18, came back a few years ago, and married into a family of serious Eagle fans.  I have tried hard to be an Eagles fan for them. Those Eagles surely do make it difficult, but I’m still trying.

Go Eagles!!

Car Shopping on a Rainy Saturday

We’ve been doing some rather serious car shopping for the past couple of weeks, and I think today we may have made a decision about which car to buy.

There are so many types, sizes, styles, extras and prices out there, that it’s hard to decide.  And so many different types of sales pitches.

We spoke to “Roman”, the car salesman today, and he gave us the best set of facts we’ve heard yet.  We might just jump in and buy a car from him.

Tune in later for the results of our rainy Saturday

GO EAGLES

The Eagles and their new stadium reminds me of an old acquaintance of mine.

This woman (who shall forever remain nameless) bought a grand piano.

Just because you own a grand piano doesn’t mean you can play it.

Better luck next time Eagles.

My new scanner

What a great toy.  The only thing wrong with getting this scanner is that I’ve created a project for myself that will probably last my whole life long.

Our family is actually 2 families joined by marriage.  And because of that, I have my family pictures, my husband’s family pictures, and our combined family pictures.  I want to make e-copies of all the pictures for all the families and give them to any interested parties.  We have a LOT of pictures.

I also have “Aunt Mona’s” recipe box, which I would like to share with all who would be interested.  I’m scanning all these old recipes, and it’s going to take me a long time.  Not easy scanning.  But I have this compulsion to share our heritage with all the people who would be interested.

Am I crazy?  When will I have time to Blog?  Wish me luck.
