See What the Birds Planted

THE SUNFLOWER GARDEN

Just a little note about our garden. We have 2 shepherds hooks in the middle of our back yard (easy to see from the deck), and we have an assortment of bird feeders on those hooks.

Every year, Don leaves a fairly large unmowed oval around the hooks, and we wait to see what will happen. We usually have the most beautiful sunflower garden planted for us by our feathered friends.

This year we have quite a population of American goldfinches in our yard.  It looks as if there are canaries flying around our yard.  image

That is beautiful and very thoughtful of Don to leave that unmowed patch.

My bird feeders are kept in the front yard so they are away from my cocker spaniel. Sunflowers don’t grow very well in shade.

Nice. I see a lot of little finches on my walks. I have to get away from The Big City to really see a lot.

About the guy and his balloons. I saw a report on TV. Interesting. He’s lucky he didn’t break a leg or spill his beer…

Love it! Love how natural it is! I only had one voluntary sunflower from the feeders, but it’s only my first year to try your wonderful idea.

That is cool, I love sunflowers. I have wasted more time photographing those than any other flower.

Hope the birds have water too.

I just love that! I wanted to do the same in our yard this year, but we had 5 squirrels around the feeder at one time, so I took the feeder down until winter.

What a great idea to just let the seeds fall and grow!  I took my feeder down because of the squirrels too.

Enjoy your weekend!

I wish I had the time to truly cultivate a yard. I’m so jealous!!

I LOVE this idea!  I am going to give it a try.

I love to bird watch.
I hope to have several bird feeders in our yard some day as well as a bird bath.  We are just now starting on our front yard landscaping, and our back and side yard are not landscaped yet.
