Malarky/Malarkey
I was talking to someone in the hall at work today, and he was discussing a company policy that he thought was “Malarky” Now there’s a word I haven’t heard in many years, so I felt obligated to look it up – Here’s what I found:
Exaggerated or foolish talk, usually intended to deceive: “snookered by a lot of malarkey”
Nonsense; rubbish; absurd behaviour or talk
Empty rhetoric or insincere or exaggerated talk
insincere talk: nonsense or rubbish, especially insincere talk ( informal )
The origin of this word is probably Early 20th century.
It certainly is a word that takes the place of a lot of less pleasant words.
Have a nice day, and don’t take any malarky from anybody!
I like that word.
I’ve learned that the problem with using words like that ages me. Ages me A LOT!
I love that word! I remember hearing it alot when I was a child. I’m gonna’ say it at least once everyday now; even if all I do is confuse people with it. That would be fun in and of itself! Thanks for the memories this stirred.
I always thought it sounded Irish. I hadn’t heard it in many years either.
Malarky is a great word!
I love the hick sound of it.
That’s a load of dag berned malarky!
Ha!! That brings back memories. We used to say bull malarky a lot when we were kids.
Just think, you could do a post next week and call it Malarky Monday.
It is an old word, and yes, those of us who know it do feel dated.

Wow, I just got done dealing with a bunch of malarkey with someone here at work and then I come upon this. Very strange.
