On Being a Southpaw

We had dinner with friends last weekend, and the husband is left-handed.  I’m left handed as well, and we had a rather lengthy conversation about items made for leftys.

He told me there was a left handed hammer (weird), and I talked about all my left-hand scissors.  I have several pairs of left-handed scissors, and two pairs of true left-handed scissors.

I decided to see if the internet had anything to offer regarding left handers.
There’s a lot out there.
Any other leftys out there?

Wow.. I think it is quite something that both you and your hubby are left handed.  My grandson is left handed so I am somewhat familiar with the issue.  We “righties” tend to take it all for granted.  And surprisingly there still seems to be the mentality out there that a leftie should convert to being a rightie.  I think this is changing.. at least I hope it is.  What kid needs that extra pressure.

I’m a righty, but I had a grandfather who was ambidextrous!

I read on someone’s blog the other day that only 11% of the population are lefties. I’m not left-handed but I have 2 grandaughters (sisters) who are, and my youngest sister is.

I’m not a lefty buy my husband was and one of my daughters, an identical twin, is. When one identical twin is a lefty and one is a righty they are called mirror twins.

My wife’s a southpaw.  So I just asked her if she had a left-handed pair of scissors.  She says she cuts right-handed.  Also irons right-handed.  That makes me wonder if you, or your husband, do anything right-handed.

I’ve always been right-handed but when I was young I noticed three things that I did left-handed.  One was shoot pool.  I’ve forgotten the other two things I did as a lefty.

My eldest son was ambidextrous (Thanks Vito for the spelling!)When he started school at two and a half (that’s how it works here), his teacher advised us to encorage him to use his right hand.  His life would be more comfortable that way, she said.  My mum always says when I was small that I used a scooter leftfooted.
