Oscar’s Tree planted in 2004

I don’t seem to be able to link back to this post, so I’m re-posting it.
image Several years ago, we befriended a beautiful big black and white cat named Oscar who lived at the end of our street.  Our friendship with Oscar grew over a period of years.

We always brought him a treat when we walked by, one treat on our way to our walk, and another treat for our way back home.  He always waited for us.  During his ast summer, we moved up to mostly seafood, his favorite - usually 2 shrimp each night.

Oscar died in the spring of 2004 and we were really very sad.  During these nightly visits, we became friendly with “Oscar’s family” and unbeknownst to us, they referred to us as “Oscar,s people”.
Well, shortly after Oscar’s death, Oscar’s parents came by our house and planted a beautiful Redbud tree in our yard. (Nancy), They got the tree for us through their business, and then they came down tonight with all this huge tree planting equipment, and planted it for us.

We have named the tree, “Oscar’s Tree”. Funny, because of that friendly cat, we’ve met some very nice people, and now we have a tree in our yard - and all because of Oscar.

And it gets more beautiful every year.

Another year has passed already!  Do you still see Oscar’s ‘parents’?

Beautiful.  I love pink budding trees, weeping cherries being my favorite.  I did have to re-read the part about Oscar’s parents coming by and planting that tree.  At first, I was thinking of a couple cats.  Reading too fast again.

My flowering dogwood didn’t this year.  Bummed out about that.  Guess he needs fertilizer or something.

What a neat post!
The tree is a great reminder of the cat that gave you such joy.
It is neat how your connection to Oscar also connected you to his owners.  The tree is a bonus!

Oscar’s tree has grown, as has your friendship with his owners!  What a thoughtful thing for them to do.

I love this story and I’ve enjoyed seeing Oscar’s tree blooming every year since I’ve been visiting your blog.

What a beautiful tree and what a lovely story. I knew there would be something on your blog to brighten my day. Not only that, I think I am going to rename the tree we planted on our anniversary to “Sam’s tree” since it is right by the spot we buried him.

That is so sweet Cas...what a befitting way to honor Oscar.  The tree is lovely.

I remember your post about that tree, Oscar, and the neighbors. Oscar’s Tree is looking great!

Wow, what a wonderful story.  It’s funny how animals seem to work their magic to make us all a little more human.  They just have to “be” there and it brings out the smiles and the friendliest manners in people.
